Portland New Family Fund (PNFF) presents a FREE three-part training designed for Oregon doulas dedicated to supporting low-income families during the perinatal year, with a special focus on the postpartum period. This 3 part workshop (6 hours total) will empower you with the skills and insights needed to provide compassionate, trauma-informed care while maintaining your own well-being. While we’ll focus on how to use the expanded THW Birth Doula Package—including strategies for making the most of the four additional visits during the postpartum time—this training is open to all doulas, regardless of THW certification. Part 1: Trauma-Informed Care and Self-Care Practices
February 7, 2025 from 12pm-2pm PST
This session will focus on providing trauma-informed care to birthing parents during the postpartum period, including how to address and support the healing process for those experiencing birth trauma. You’ll gain practical tools for creating a safe and compassionate environment that fosters trust and recovery. Additionally, this session will explore essential self-care practices to safeguard your mental and physical health, ensuring you can sustain your energy and resilience while providing this critical support. This training is open to all doulas passionate about enhancing their postpartum care skills.

Part 2: Supporting Low-Income Postpartum Parents at Home
February 20, 2025 from 6pm-8pm PST
Explore how to approach caregiving in the homes of low-income families with cultural humility and sensitivity. Gain practical tools for assessing their unique needs and providing personalized support through a trauma-informed lens that fosters trust and connection.

Part 3: Low-Income NICU Families and Social Determinants of Health
February 28, 2025 from 12pm-2pm PST

Understand the challenges faced by low-income NICU families and how to offer effective support during this critical time. Dive into the social determinants of health to better advocate for and address the systemic barriers these families encounter during the perinatal period.
